Sr. ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENTIST / ENGINEER

DESCRIPTION

  • Perform municipal and internet research on project locations.
  • Perform environmental (soil, water, air) and building materials sampling activities.
  • Observe, document and guide subcontractors in the advancement of excavations, soil borings and monitoring well installations.
  • Provide scientific analysis and regulatory interpretation of data.
  • Compile results, present findings, and prepare reports.
  • Obtain/maintain licensure/registration, as appropriate.
  • Observe and promote company values and culture.
  • Perform related duties as needed to meet client objectives.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS

  • Must be flexible and team-oriented with outstanding communication, organizational, analytical, writing, and time management skills.
  • Must be adaptable and willing to learn.
  • Must have reliable automobile and driver’s license with good driving record and be able to travel (typically throughout MA and CT, but also other parts of New England).
  • Must be able to work outdoors or at construction sites under variable weather conditions, and be accountable for equipment and tools used as part of projects.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 40 lbs. of equipment.
  • Background checks may be required for some work assignment.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • BS or higher degree in natural, chemical or physical science or engineering or related science discipline.
  • 3-5 years of relevant field experience collecting environmental and building materials samples in Connecticut and/or Massachusetts.
  • Proficiency with office productivity software.
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification and 8-hour refreshers; 10-hour Construction Safety certification.

FIELD TECHNICIAN/ INSPECTOR/ PROJECT MONITOR

DESCRIPTION

  • Regularly interact and collaborate with OTO team leaders, clients, and contractors to conduct hazardous materials (asbestos, lead, oil/petroleum, chemical, etc.) inspections.
  • Perform air monitoring and air clearances for various hazardous materials abatement projects.
  • Projects typically occur during work hours but will also include nights and weekends.
  • Provide as‐needed written documentation (inspection, visual and air clearance reports) for various projects.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS

  • Must have knowledge of applicable OSHA, EPA, and state regulations for asbestos and lead‐based paint.
  • Must be able to work as part of a team, but also individually with minimal supervision.
  • Must be able to wear a respirator and perform duties as need with appropriate/as needed personal protective equipment.
  • Must maintain and be accountable for industrial hygiene equipment and tools used as part of projects.
  • Throughout work shifts, must be able to lift and carry up to 30 lbs of equipment.
  • Must have current driver’s license and clean driving record and be able to provide own transportation and be willing to travel (typically throughout MA, but also other parts of New England).

QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or GED (with skills in writing and mathematics)
  • 1‐3 years of related experience
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Word (and potentially Excel)

PREFERRED ATTRIBUTES

  • AS or BS in safety, industrial hygiene, environmental science, or related fields
  • 1OSHA 40‐hour HAZWOPER
  • Current EPA accreditations and state licensed for asbestos (inspector, project monitor) and lead (inspector, risk assessor)
  • Good communication skills
